The Crown and The Mandalorian tied for the most honours when nominations for the 73rd Emmys were announced this morning (July 13).
Each series scored 24 nominations, and they were joined in the nominations for best drama series by The Boys, Bridgerton, The Handmaid’s Tale, Lovecraft Country, Pose and This Is Us.
HBO/HBO Max scored the most nominations among platforms, taking 130 to narrowly beat Netflix with 129. Disney+ took 71 and NBC 46.
Other drama series with multiple nominations included The Handmaid’s Tale with 21 and Lovecraft Country with 18. Limited series scoring big hauls included WandaVision, with 23 nominations, The Queen’s Gambit with 18 and Mare of Easttown with 16.
Nominees for best limited series included Mare of Easttown and Michaela Coel’s I May Destroy You but not Steve McQueen’s Small Axe, which got only one nomination, for cinematography.
Acting nominees included The Crown’s Olivia Colman, Emma Corrin, Josh O’Connor and Tobias Menzies, Coel, Hugh Grant, Ewan McGregor, Kate Winslett, Matthew Rhys and Paul Bettany.
Coel was also nominated as a writer and director for I May Destroy You. In all, Coel’s acclaimed series for the BBC and HBO got nine nominations.
Final-round voting for the Emmys runs from August 19-30 and the awards will be presented in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 19.
