Ezra Miller, star of upcoming Warner Bros film The Flash, is seeking treatment for ”complex mental health issues” following multiple arrests and controversies.
The actor, who identifies as non-binary and uses them/they pronouns, first came under fire in 2020 after a video showed them strangling a woman outside of a bar in Iceland.
Miller has since been arrested twice in Hawaii for disorderly conduct and harassment, and was most recently charged with a felony burglary in Vermont following a police investigation.
In a statement to Variety, Miller said: ”Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment.
“I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behaviour. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.”
The Flash was filmed across the UK, including the Warner Bros studios in Leavesden and various parts of Scotland, wrapping production last October. Its release, currently scheduled for June 23, 2023, has been subject to speculation due to Miller’s behaviour, but Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav said he was “very excited” for the film in the company’s recent Q2 earnings meeting.
Zaslav recently faced backlash for his decision to shelve fellow DC film Batgirl, which also filmed in the UK across Glasgow, owing to a company shift away from streaming (the film was to premiere on HBO Max) and into theatrical releases.
Miller previously portrayed the ‘The Flash’ character in other DC films Justice League, Suicide Squad and Batman V Superman. Their other prominent roles include The Perks Of Being A Wallflower and We Need To Talk About Kevin.
