Zurich Film Festival (ZFF, September 22 - October 2) has unveiled its Gala Premieres for 2022 and the line-up includes Gina Prince-Bythewood’s The Woman King, Florian Zeller’s The Son and Nicholas Stoller’s Bros.
Prince-Bythewood’s historical drama stars Viola Davis as the leader of the African all-female army that fought European colonists to protect their kingdom. The film will have its world premiere at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF, September 8-18).
Also coming to Zurich hot on the heels of its TIFF premiere is Stoller’s gay romantic comedy starring Billy Eichner, who co-wrote the screenplay, and is produced by Judd Apatow.
Zeller follows up from his 2020 drama The Father, which also screened at ZFF, with The Son about a teenager who decides he no longer wants to live with his mother, played by Laura Dern, and moves in with his father, Hugh Jackman’s character, instead. It will have its world premiere at Venice Film Festival (August 31 - September 10) prior to Zurich.
Other Venice titles, Jafar Panahi’s No Bears and Bill Pohlad’s Dreamin’ Wild, are also included on the line-up alongside festival favourite Corsage and the world premiere of Laurent Negre’s A Forgotten Man.
