TriStar Pictures’ The Woman King has got the greenlight for a China release on April 14, the studio said on Monday (March 6).
Gina Prince-Bythewood directed the film, based on the all-female Agojie warriors who protected the African Kingdom of Dahomey in the 1800s.
It has grossed $97.2m worldwide, with $29.9m coming from international arena and $67.3m from North America.
The Woman King stars Viola Davis as General Nanisca as she trains the next generation of recruits and readies them for battle against a fearsome enemy. The cast includes Thuso Mbedu, Lashana Lynch, Sheila Atim, Hero Fiennes Tiffin and John Boyega also star.
Dana Stevens wrote the screenplay from a story by Maria Bello and Stevens. Cathy Schulma, Davis, Julius Tennon and Bello served as producers, and executive producers is Peter McAleese.
