‘West Side Story’

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has revealed details of this year’s Festival Street events and Cinematheque programme. 

Back for its seventh year, Festival Street will unfold Sept 8-11 on Toronto’s King Street West and Sept 8-18 in David Pecaut Square. 

Events will include musical performances by Buffy Sainte-Marie and others inspired by films in the festival and a live art walk created by StreetARToronto.

TIFF’s new open air cinema, OLG Cinema Park in David Pecaut Square, will screen films showcasing stars from the festival’s current official selections, among them West Side Story, The Mummy, A League of Their Own, School of Rock and Love & Basketball. 

In 2019, Festival Street drew 200,000 visitors over four days.

The TIFF Cinematheque programme will offer free screenings of five classic films, including world premieres of 4K restorations of Satyajit Ray’s The Stranger and Guy Maddin’s Tales from the Gimli Hospital
