The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has set Kenneth Branagh, Benedict Cumberbatch, Kristen Stewart and Steven Yeun for the In Conversation With… sessions at this year’s event, running September 9-18.
TIFF also announced additional special events, the makeup of its Platform Prize Jury and the titles in the 2021 Industry Selects section.
In Conversation With… sessions will all take place digitally and be accessible worldwide.
Branagh comes to the festival with his new film Belfast, which will get a gala presentation in Toronto. Cumberbatch has Jane Campion’s The Power Of The Dog and Will Sharpe’s The Electrical Life Of Louis Wain in the festival.
Stewart, star of Pablo Larrain’s special event festival screening Spencer, appears to celebrate the fifth anniversary of TIFF’s Share Her Journey initiative in support of women in the film industry. And Yeun has Stephen Karam’s The Humans screening as one of the festival’s special presentations.
TIFF’s Platform Prize Jury will be led by actor Riz Ahmed, with other jurors including Clio Barnard, Valerie Complex, Kazik Radwanski and Anthony Chen.
The 22 films in the Industry Selects line-up, a curated selection of global films beyond the official selection that are available for sale at the festival, include Carlos Saura’s King Of All The World, from Mexico and Spain, Potsy Ponciroli’s Old Henry from the US and, from the UK, Stephen Fingleton’s Nightride and Malachi Smyth’s The Score.
Added to TIFF’s special events schedule is a screening of Triumph: Rock & Roll Machine, a documentary about a seventies Toronto rock group, and Reflecting on 9/11, a day of recollection marking the anniversary of the terrorist attacks that hit New York during TIFF 20 years ago. The day will include a screening of new documentary Memory Box: Echoes of 9/11.
