Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has added 35 feature titles to its line-up for 2021, predominantly across the TIFF Docs, Midnight Madness and Wavelengths strands.
The new titles include 11 world premieres, consisting of eight in TIFF Docs and three in Midnight Madness.
Titles in the latter include DASHCAM, the new film from Rob Savage, director of 2020 pandemic horror hit Host. Savage was named a Screen Star of Tomorrow in 2013.
Also in the Midnight Madness section is Kate Dolan’s You Are Not My Mother, inspired by the mythology of the Changeling, which Bankside Films boarded for world sales this week.
Julia Ducournau’s Cannes 2021 Palme d’Or winner Titane will open the Midnight Madness strand.
TIFF Docs world premieres include Stanley Nelson’s Showtime film Attica, chronicling the five-day prison rebellion in 1971 in New York; and HBO’s Listening To Kenny G, from Penny Lane, director of 2019 hit Hail Satan?.
Four further Special Presentations have been added to the programme, including Cannes 2021 titles Ahed’s Knee from Nadav Lapid, France from Bruno Dumont, and Where Is Anne Frank from Ari Folman.
New additions to the Contemporary World Cinema strand include the North American premieres of Harry Wootliff’s UK title True Things, starring Ruth Wilson and Tom Burke; Juho Kuosmanen’s Cannes Grand Prix co-winner Compartment No. 6; and Khadar Ayderus Ahmed’s Critics’ Week pick The Gravedigger’s Wife.
The 46th TIFF runs from September 9-18.
Canada intends to open its borders for non-essential travel for US citizens and permanent residents from August 9; and for citizens from any country from September 7, providing that the domestic epidemiologic situation allows.
