Charlbi Dean, the South African model and actor who starred in Palme d’Or winner Triangle Of Sadness, has died following a sudden illness. She was 32.
Dean appeared alongside Woody Harrelson and Harris Dickinson in Ruben Ostlund’s satire. Her acting roles included The CW series Black Lightning.
Among her feature credits were Blood In The Water, Don’t Sleep, and Spud. She was known earlier in her career as Charlbi Dean Kriek.
Following its world premiere on the Croisette, Triangle Of Sadness is scheduled to receive its North American premiere in Special Presentations at TIFF on September 8.
Ostlund paid tribute to Dean, saying: ”Charlbi’s sudden passing is a shock and a tragedy. It is an honour to have gotten to know and work with her. Charlbi had a care and sensitivity that lifted her colleagues and the entire film crew. The thought that she will not be by our side in the future makes me very sad. At this difficult time, my thoughts go out to her loved ones, her family and her fiance Luke.”
