RLJE Films has paid low seven figures for US rights to the rom-com Plus One on which Ben Stiller served as executive producer ahead of its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival next month.
Jeff Chan (Adam Ruins Everything) and Andrew Rhymer (Pregame) wrote and directed the film starring Maya Erskine from Hulu’s PEN15, alongside Jack Quaid (Amazon’s The Boys), Ed Begley, Jr. (Arrested Development), Beck Bennett (SNL), Rosalind Chao (Mulan), Brianne Howey (The Passage), Jon Bass (Miracle Workers) and Finn Wittrock (American Horror Story).
Plus One will get a summer release and centres on longtime friends Alice and Ben, who agree to accompany each other through a procession of weddings as their friends start to tie the knot.
Ross Putnam, Jeremy Reitz (PEN15), Deborah Liebling (PEN15), and Greg Beauchamp served as producers alongside Chan and Rhymer.
Ben Stiller was on board as executive producer through Red Hour Films with Nicholas Weinstock and Jackie Cohn, Michael Schreiber and Dan Weinstein for Studio71, as well as Lunacy Productions’ Stu Pollard and Harris McCabe, Inwood Road Films’ James Short and John Short, and Milan Chakraborty.
“We’re excited to be releasing Plus One just in time for wedding season,” said Mark Ward, chief acquisitions officer for RLJE Films. “With rising stars Jack Quaid and Maya Erskine leading the hilarious cast, we know audiences will fall in love with this film.”
Ward and Jess De Leo from RLJE Films negotiated the deal with Verve on behalf of the filmmakers.
