TrustNordisk is to kick off presales on Swedish comedy-drama A Man Called Ove at the American Film Market.
Based on the bestselling book by Fredrik Backman, A Man Called Ove tells the story of a grumpy old man who has given up on everyone including himself. But his life and negative approach to the world is put to the test when a new family moves in next door.
The film, currently in pre-production, will be directed by Swedish director Hannes Holm who previously directed Behind Blue Skies (2010) and the hit Andersson franchise, which includes The Anderssons In Greece (2012) and The Anderssons Hit the Road (2013).
Cast for A Man Called Ove is yet to be announced.
Backman’s novel was published in 2012 and book rights have been sold to more than 30 countries, including Germany, France, UK, Spain and Italy.
The film is produced by Annica Bellander for Tre Vänner in co-operation with Film i Väst, SVT, Nordisk Film with support from The Swedish Film Institute. More investors are expected.
Release in Scandinavia is currently set for Dec 2015.
