Web-platform gives US filmgoers the chance to choose the films to play at their local theatres.
Andrew Disney’s Searching For Sonny has been made available to watch across the US through web-platform Tugg, Inc.
Disney’s comedy, which follows three friends caught in a murder mystery at their high school reunion, will play nationwide at theatres where filmgoers have chosen to see it, with screenings already scheduled for Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Phoenix and Nashville.
“I love the Tugg model because it puts distribution directly in the hands of filmmakers and audiences,” commented Disney. “No longer do films need huge advertising budgets in order to play theatrically.”
Tugg currently works with exhibitors Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, AMC Theatres, Bow Tie Cinemas, Cinemark Theatres, Goodrich Quality Cinemas, Rave Cinemas and Regal Cinemas, with expansion planned in the coming weeks.
