UK broadcaster Channel 4 has ordered a two-part documentary on actor Kevin Spacey, with former C4 head of news Dorothy Byrne attached to executive produce.
Spacey Unmasked (working title) will cast a forensic eye over Spacey’s childhood, emergent success on Broadway and his rise to become one of the most respected actors in the world, through to his fall from grace as he is accused by multiple men of grooming, sexual harassment and abuse.
The film will follow on the outcomes of two court cases against the actor, the civil case to be heard in New York later this year, brought by actor Anthony Rapp – Spacey’s first public accuser – and the impending criminal case brought by three anonymous men which recently commenced in the UK.
Spacey was granted bail earlier this month following an appearance at London’s Westminster Magistrates Court.
He has denied many of the accusations against him.
The two x 60-minute documentary will investigate Spacey’s conduct, how it impacted others and the reason why the victims decided to speak out.
Spacey Unmasked is produced by Oscar-nominated indie Roast Beef, in association with All3Media International. It was commissioned for C4 by Alicia Pomeroy, head of documentaries. Byrne exec produces alongside Mike Lerner, with Kathy Haywood producing and Kira Phillips directing.

“Critically acclaimed on both sides of the Atlantic for his film work, Spacey led the Old Vic for 11 years of remarkable success, becoming one of the most important figures in London’s cultural life, a friend to some of its leading figures, making regular appearances in society columns.
“These films will follow the unfolding story of the allegations of abuse against him and the resulting court cases,” said Byrne.
