UK sales and production outfit Embankment Films has expanded its team with the appointment of Gabriella Kramer-Khan as acquisitions, production and distribution manager, the first role of its kind for the company.
Kramer-Khan will report in to Toby Hill, head of acquisitions and production, and producer Kevin Loader.
She joins from Sky, where she was Sky TV’s group acquisitions executive for the UK, Italy, and Germany.
Kramer-Khan previously worked in acquisitions and content strategy at Universal Pictures and in legal and business affairs at Warner Bros, having specialised in intellectual property and entertainment law at the UK’s BPP Law School. At Warner Bros, she supported the release of local acquisitions including Dream Horse and The Nan Movie.
The past seven months have seen several updates for Embankment, whose slate includes Sophie Hyde’s upcoming feature, An Ideal Wife. Hill took over from Max Pirkis, head of acquisitions and distribution, in October, with Hill’s refreshed job title and role remit a reflection of the company’s shift into production. In July, HanWay’s Mark Lane joined as head of worldwide sales and distribution, taking over from Calum Gray.
Loader’s production company Free Range Films joined forces in May with Embankment to form umbrella company, Free Range Entertainment.
“Kevin and I are thrilled that Gabby has chosen to complete our team,” said Hill. ”She brings her much valued experience of content acquisition for distribution platforms alongside a keen passion for emerging filmmakers which we are keen to support.”
Kramer-Khan added: “I’m a great admirer of Embankment’s continued success in bringing high-quality story-telling to global audiences and excited to join the company at a time of global demand for high-quality content.”
Kramer-Khan is also taking part in this year’s Bifa nomination committee for the debut director category and was selected by Riz Ahmed’s Left Handed Films to mentor emerging filmmakers as part of a programme Ahmed has co-created with US grant-making organisation Pillars Fund, to champion Muslim filmmakers.
