UK filmmaker and broadcaster Reggie Yates is to write and direct biopic Poles Apart for Golden Gate Studios and Chrome Productions.
The film is inspired by the true story of Dwayne Fields who became the first Black Briton to trek over 400 nautical miles to the North Pole. Fields went on to co-found a charity that takes disadvantaged young people on life-changing expeditions.
Poles Apart is produced by Golden Gate Studios’ Nick Manzi and former Sony executive Luke Scrase, as well Joel Mishcon and Stephen Parker for London and Los Angeles-based Chrome Productions.
Poles Apart is the first scripted project for commercials outfit Chrome Productions, under its new entertainment banner Chrome Studios.
London-based Golden Gate Studios was founded by Scrase in 2021 and has a first- look deal with Sony Pictures Television. Manzi is the former head of acquisitions at Lionsgate UK.
Yates’ directing debut Pirates, about the UK garage scene, was released last year. The BBC-developed film was recently acquired by Netflix and screened at SXSW 2022.
