‘Rimini’

Philippe Bober’s Coproduction Office has confirmed multiple new deals struck during last month’s EFM on Austrian auteur Ulrich Seidl’s Berlin competition title Rimini.

Buyers now aboard include September Films for Benelux, Wanted for Italy, Triart for Sweden, Another World Entertainment for Norway, Ost For Paradis for Denmark, Bio Paradis for Iceland, Nitrate Filmes for Portugal, Auroa for Poland, Film Europe for Czech Republic and Slovakia, and Shani Film for Israel.

Rimini tells the story of a faded pop star, now squeezing out whatever money and adulation he can from his fans in the Italian coastal town. Trapped between permanent intoxication and concerts for busloads of tourists, his world starts to collapse when his adult daughter returns to his life, asking for money.

Seidl wrote and directed the film which is produced by Philippe Bober and Michel Merkt. The cast is led by Michael Thomas, Tessa Göttlicher, Hans-Michael Rehberg, Inge Maux, Claudia Martini and Georg Friedrich.

The film is a co-production between Ulrich Seidl Filmproduktion and Essential Films and Parisienne de Production. The backers include the Austrian Film Institute and the Vienna Film Fund.

Previously announced deals include Germany with Neue Visionen, UK with Sovereign, Switzerland with Xenix, Spain with Filmin, Hungary with Vertigo, Former Yugoslavia with Demiurg, Baltics with Must Kasi, Indonesia with Falcon and Piano in Mexico.

Stadtkino will release the film in Seidl’s native Austria.
