Paul Greengrass is set to direct an adaptation of Stephen King’s latest novel Fairy Tale for Universal Pictures after the studio emerged as the winner of a bidding contest to acquire the book with Greengrass attached.
The deal puts British filmmaker Greengrass back in business with Universal, for which he directed three of the five films in the Jason Bourne series (The Bourne Ultimatum, The Bourne Supremacy and Jason Bourne) as well as 2006’s United 93 and 2020 Oscar nominee News Of The World.
Published just last month, Fairy Tale is about a 17-year-old boy who inherits keys that unlock a portal to another world where good and evil are at war.
Greengrass is set to produce the film version with Greg Goodman, also a producer on News Of The World and the director’s 2013 Oscar nominee Captain Phillips.
Greengrass described Fairy Tale as “a work of genius - a classic adventure story and also a disturbing contemporary allegory.”
King commented: “Needless to say, I’m a Paul Greengrass fan and think he’s a wonderful choice for this film.”
