US composer Laurence Rosenthal will be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the World Soundtrack Awards this year. The 23rd edition of the awards ceremony will take place at Film Fest Gent on October 21.
Rosenthal has composed scores for over 100 films and television shows throughout his six decades-spanning career.
Known for his creative partnership with actor-director Peter Glenville, Rosenthal wrote original scores for three of his films throughout the 1960s, including Hotel Paradiso, The Comedians and the 1964 film Becket, for which he was nominated for an Acadamy Award.
Glenville and Rosenthal collaborated for the stage as well as the screen, starting with the score for a Broadway theatrical adaptation of classic Japanese film Rashomon.
He earned a second Oscar nomination in 1973 for composing music for Man Of La Mancha, which starred Sophia Loren and Peter O’Toole.
Thecomposer took home three Emmys for his work on TV show The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles in the 1990s, bringing his total number of Emmys to seven.
His further credits include The Return Of A Man Called Horse (1976), Clash Of The Titans (1981), and Jack Lemmon and George C. Scott’s final film, Inherit The Wind (1999).
