The US premiere of Steven Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical drama The Fabelmans will close AFI Fest at TCL Chinese Theatre on November 6.
The film from Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment gets its world premiere at TIFF this weekend. Gabriel LaBelle plays teenager and aspiring filmmaker Sammy Fabelman, encouraged by his mother, played by Michelle Williams.
The cast includes Paul Dano, Seth Rogen and Judd Hirsch. Spielberg co-wrote the screenplay with Tony Kushner and produced alongside Kristie Macosko Krieger and Kushner.
The Fabelmans is set to open theatrically on November 11.
AFI president Bob Gazzale said, “[T]here is no greater cinematic magician than Steven Spielberg. We are honored to celebrate his return to the festival with this intimately powerful film that will send the audience’s spirits soaring.”
AFI Fest will run exclusively in person in Los Angeles from November 2-6.
