Gotham Film & Media Institute said on Monday (July 11) that the Venice International Film Festival will receive the Gotham Impact Salute at the 2022 Gotham Awards Ceremony later this year.
Gotham hierarchy noted Venice’s role in championing emerging and established filmmakers over the years like Darren Aronofsky, Kelly Reichardt, Todd Haynes, Regina King, Kenneth Lonergan, George A. Romero, Gus Van Sant and Julie Taymor.
Since 2013 the recently renamed Gotham Film & Media Institute has been an academic partner of Biennale College Cinema – La Biennale di Venezia’s project dedicated to the education of young people in artistic fields and the activities of the organisational structure of the Biennale.
Jeffrey Sharp, executive director of The Gotham Film & Media Institute, said: “In addition to premiering some of the greatest films each year, Venice has had a major impact upon the U.S. independent film industry over the course of many decades [.]”
The in-person Gotham Film & Media Institute ceremony is set to take place in New York on November 28. The full list of nominations and honourees for the 2022 Gotham Awards will be announced at a later date.
