Lila Avilés’ highly regarded The Chambermaid (La Camarista) from Mexico was a big winner at the Ventana Sur awards on Thursday evening (November 30), taking Primer Corte’s Visión Europea Prize and Le Film Francais Prize.
Grimalkin (pictured) from Mexico was among Animation! winners announced in Buenos Aires, while Gloomy Eyes was one of the winners of the second Trends immersive content showcase.
Avilés’ drama The Chambermaid, about a hotel maid who rises above her lonely existence by collecting discarded items left behind by rich guests, has been one of the most talked-about screenings in Buenos Aires this week.
The drama is still without a sales agent – although the prizes may change that – and the filmmakers are in their second cut and looking for co-producers and funding to complete the edit and post.
Miguel Angel Moulet’s Peru-Dominican Republic drama We’re All Sailors (Todos Somos Marineros) took the Sofía Films Prize and the Lamayor Cine Prize, while Jorge Navas’ urban dance drama We Are The Heat (Buenaventura Mon Amor (Somos Calentura, Argentina-Colombia) earned the NMF And Color Front Prize and the HD Argentina Prize.
