Ryan Kampe’s Visit Films has snapped up worldwide rights excluding Uruguay, Argentina and Spain in Ventana Sur to The Sharks ahead of its world premiere in Sundance next month.
Film School of Uruguay graduate Lucía Garibaldi makes her feature directorial debut on the World Cinema selection about Rosina, a teenage inhabitant of a sleepy coastal town who thinks she may have spotted a shark while swimming in the sea.
As rumours fly and the townsfolk get spooked, Rosina remains calm, focusing her attention on a co-worker who has caught her eye. Newcomer Romina Bentancur stars in the coming-of-age drama alongside Federico Morosini, Fabián Arenillas, Valeria Lois, and Antonella Aquistapache.
Garibaldi won the Films in Progress 34 Industry Award at the 2018 San Sebastián International Film Festival. Pancho Magnou Arnábal and Isabel García produced The Sharks and Melanie Schapiro served as co-producer.
Kampe acquired sales rights at the Ventana Sur market in Buenos Aires last week. The Uruguay-Argentina-Spain film premieres at The Egyptian on January 28.
