VMI Worldwide has come on board worldwide sales rights for TIFF to coming-of-age story The Crusades starring Rudy Pankow from Netflix’s Outer Banks.
Leo Milano directed the film about three friends at an all-boys private high school about to merge with a rival institution who plan one final hurrah while dodging authority, love affairs and violent foes in the longest weekend of their lives.
At the heart of it is Leo Grecco, a delusional romantic caught up in a teenage love triangle. Ashley Nicole Williams, Khalil Everage, Indiana Massara, Ryan Ashton, Blaine Maye and Nicholas Turturro also star in the film, inspired by the high school experiences of co-writers Jack Hussar, Shaun Early and Milano.
The Crusades is produced by Brent Madison through his and Milano’s Bad Little Thing. Turturro serves as executive producer alongside his son Nicholas Turturro III.
VMI Worldwide’s COO of productions and acquisitions Jessica Bennett negotiated the deal with Madison and Nadia Davari on behalf of Bad Little Thing.
“The Crusades is a fun dark comedy in the vein of Apatow’s Superbad which cleverly plays into all of the high school tropes with witty dialogue and stylish flair from Milano,” said Bennett.
”Never relating to the Hollywood YA stories, The Crusades is the high school film I always wanted to see growing up, and after many years in the making I am so thrilled to finally share what I believe to be a fresh and somewhat overdramatic (like everything in high school) take on teenage life,” added Milano.
Pankow will next be seen in Season 3 of Outer Banks which just wrapped filming.
VMI’s recent titles include: Clean starring Adrien Brody; Old Henry with Tim Blake Nelson; The Last Son starring Sam Worthington, Colson Baker, Thomas Jane and Heather Graham; Pups Alone with Jennifer Love Hewitt, Rob Schneider and Dolph Lundgren; Wander starring Aaron Eckhart and Tommy Lee Jones; and Arkansas with Vince Vaughn, Liam Hemsworth and John Malkovich.
