Final installation took place in Cardiff, completing update of 650 screens across its 69 UK & Ireland cinemas.
Vue Entertainment has completed its multi-million pound roll-out of Sony 4K Digital Cinema Technology, making it the largest cinema circuit in Europe equipped with the technology.
The final installation took place at the Vue Cardiff, completing the update of 650 screens across Vue’s 69 UK & Ireland cinemas. The new projectors allow films to be delivered in up to four times the number of pixels compared to a normal projector, resulting in increased definition and brighter colours, and the transition from 35mm to 4K digital screens will enable Vue to offer greater choice to audiences, including live and recorded 3D and 2D content.
Tim Richards [pictured], CEO, Vue Cinemas, commented: “In partnership with Sony we are thrilled to be able to offer a superior viewing experience for our customers up and down the country. Our Breatht4King Sony Digital 4K Projectors allow cinema goers to experience all the action, suspense and drama at a new level, making the cinema experience even more immersive and memorable.”
“Our partnership with Vue Cinemas has continued to grow over the years and it’s great to see the completion of the roll-out,” added David McIntosh, Senior Vice President, Sony Digital Cinema. “As one of the most progressive cinema companies in the world, Vue clearly recognises the benefits of digitalisation and we are delighted that Sony 4K is going to play a key role in helping Vue offer its customers a revolutionised industry-leading movie-going experience.”
Vue will be opening in Halifax in October, with four new cinemas on site for 2013 and more planned for 2014 and beyond.
