New York-based studio Wavelength, whose credits include Cusp, Athlete A, and The Cave Of Adullam, has hired Mike Prall as head of studios, Emily Katz as head of development.
The executives will be based in New York and arrive at a busy time as the company prepares to open its first international office in London following partnerships with international producers on seven of its 2022 films including Aisha, Radical Dreamer, and The Last Year Of Darkness.
Prall and Katz will work closely with Wavelength founder, CEO and executive producer Jenifer Westphal and company president Joe Plummer.
“We are thrilled for this expansion to bring more international sales deals,” said Westphal. “It means working with new disruptive filmmakers from across the pond to tell stories of impact and have diverse voices heard on an international level.”
Prall will continue to grow Wavelength’s capabilities as a creative partner and full-service production company for brand clients, overseeing a full suite of services ranging from production and post to creative development and consulting. His producer credits include The Sound Of Silence, Love After Love and The Mend and he has collaborated on social action campaigns with Serena Williams, Bernie Sanders, and the Climate Reality Project.
Katz brings more than 10 years of media experience working on a range of content from celebrity-driven formats to social impact documentaries. She was previously director of development at the Intellectual Property Corporation (Indian Matchmaking, Selena & Chef, Night Stalker) and R.J. Cutler’s This Machine Filmworks (The War Room, Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry).
Wavelength Studios is best known for supporting stories that highlight underserved communities and championing tastemakers and individuals who impact culture including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Andy Kaufman, Ani DiFranco, Jason Wilson, and Fred Rogers.
Since its inception in 2015, the company has been involved in the development, production, financing and distribution of more than 80 films, averaging 10 a year. Titles inclide Bitterbrush, 32 Sounds, Let Me Be Me, and Tribeca Best Documentary winner The Cave Of Adullam.
