UPDATED: The world premiere of Illumination Entertainment’s Sing 2 has became the latest film to join the AFI Fest roster one day after it was announced that the festival had added Venice Silver Bear winner Jane Campion’s The Power Of The Dog.
Sing 2 screens on November 14 and feaures a returning voice cast of Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Taron Egerton, Tori Kelly, Nick Kroll and Garth Jennings. New cast members are Pharrell Williams and Halsey, Bobby Cannavale and Letitia Wright, and comedians Eric André and Chelsea Peretti. Jennings directs and Universal has scheduled a December 22 US release.
The Power Of The Dog stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Jesse Plemons and Kristen Dunst star in the story of feuding rancher brothers. The cast includes Kodi Smit-McPhee and Thomasin McKenzie.
The film is a See-Saw Films, Bad Girl Creek and Max Films production in association with Brightstar, The New Zealand Film Commission, Cross City Films and BBC Film. Campion, Tanya Seghatchian, Emile Sherman, Iain Canning and Roger Frappier produced.
Netflix will release The Power Of The Dog in US cinemas on November 17 ahead of the platform debut on December 3.
Earlier this week Screen revealed Finnish Oscar submission Compartment No.6 had joined the World Cinema line-up. The hybrid AFI Fest runs November 10-14 and opens with the world premiere of tick, tick…BOOM! and closed with King Richard.
