Microsoft has commissioned a football-themed series as the first unscripted series to stream via its Xbox games console.
The company’s Xbox Entertainment Studios division has ordered the football-themed series, titled Every Street United, from Mandalay Sports Media, the US indie set up by Rain Man producer and LA Dodgers owner Peter Guber, Smallville co-creator Mike Tollin and talent agency CAA.
Each episode of the 8 x 30-minute series will be shot in a different country and focus on different teams and players ahead of the 2014 World Cup.
The final episode will be filmed at the finals in Brazil.
The order comes after Microsoft’s president of entertainment and digital media Nancy Tellem told ScreenDaily’s sister publication Broadcast in September that it was looking for indies to pitch innovative, immersive content ideas ahead of the launch of its Xbox One console.
The series is set to be made available internationally across the console’s digital media platform and will launch early next year.
