XYZ Films has boarded worldwide sales on Tribeca Festival entry The Seeding for its New Visions roster and will screen the film for buyers in Cannes ahead of the world premiere in New York in June.
Barnaby Clay directed the horror about a man trapped in a desert canyon with a woman living off-grid who is captive to a pack of sadistic boys. Kate Lyn Sheil and Scott Haze star.
XYZ Films serves as executive producer and co-financier on The Seeding and its fund partner IPR.VC provided investment funding.
Recently announced sales executive Manon Barat will work alongside head of international acquisitions Todd Brown to oversee the new slate of global sales titles, which was announced last week.
As previously announced the initial roster includes In Flames, Zarrar Kahn’s Pakistani-Canadian genre film which premieres in Cannes Directors’ Fortnight; Robert Hloz’s Czech sci-fi Restore Point, footage from which will screen as part of the Cannes market’s Fantastic 7 genre showcase; and Paul Duane’s upcoming Irish folk horror All You Need Is Death.
“We’re excited to be working with XYZ Films on this,” said Clay. “As fans of genre cinema, we have long admired the films they’ve brought to life and their commitment to divergent filmmakers to help fulfill their artistic vision. After all, these guys made Mandy happen and the world is a better place for it.”
“When Barnaby called us about this project a few years ago we had an instinct that he was onto something special,” added XYZ Films partner Nate Bolotin. “He’s exactly the kind of bold, breakout filmmaking talent we are constantly on the lookout for and we are thrilled that this will be a part of our New Visions initiative heading into Cannes and Tribeca.”
