Denis Villeneuve and David Mackenzie also rumoured to be on the list.
Having set a release date for Bond 25, EON and MGM are weighing up who will be best suited to direct 007’s next adventure.
According to reports Yann Demange (pictured), the wunderkind who directed IRA thriller ’71 and is working on White Boy Rick, is on the shortlist.
So are Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve and another Briton, David Mackenzie, whose stock rose with 2016 awards season release Hell Or High Water.
Sam Mendes has said he would not return after directing Skyfall (2012) and Spectre (2015), which earned $1.1bn and $880m worldwide, respectively.
CAA, which represents Demange and Villeneuve, would not comment on the speculation. Screen was unable to reach representatives for Mackenzie.
Daniel Craig, who has played the superspy for the last four instalments, is expected to don the tuxedo one last time.
What also remains to be decided is who will distribute the film. Sony’s contract has expired and the studio is understood to be chasing a renewal, alongside Warner Bros and several other candidates.
Bond 25 will open in the US on November 8, 2019.
