EXCLUSIVE: Swedish-Danish producer Richard Georg Engström and Danish director Tommy Ipsen are at the EFM to promote their €4m English-language sci-fi project [pictured].

“A Lars von Trier drama in the visual universe of Blade Runner” is how Swedish-Danish producer Richard Georg Engström and Danish director Tommy Ipsen are promoting Exodus, a €4m English-language sci-fi project, which they are launching at the European Film Market.

With a script, a 20-minute pilot and a lead cast including Danish actor Cyrun Melville (A Royal Affair) and Hollywood actress Brigitte Nielsen (Eldorado), Swedish actor Matias Varela (Snabba Cash) and Norwegian actor Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones), they will meet potential co-production partners especially from Canada, Germany and France.

“Canada has a major industry of special effects for films and games, which suits the production fine,” said Engström, whose newly-established TSOMM Pictures will produce. Engström has signed Danish-Canadian lead layout artist Thomas Pringle to create the landscape for Danish writer Christoffer Örnfeldt’s screenplay.

“We pitched the project at the recent Nordic Film Market in Göteborg and had a rather strong response to style and genre. We hope to package and finance the production this year, start pre-marketing activities (crowd sourcing, probably funding) and shoot the film in 2014 for delivery the following year,” he added.

Set in a fantasy world, Exodus is the story of a traumatised elite soldier, Jacob, who tries to protect his younger brother Elias from the secret about what soldiers do to maintain the energy flow that empowers the human civilisation. But Elias wants to fight the giants, too, and goes into battle, followed by Jacob, and the giants capture them both.

TSOMM Pictures most recently produced Danish director Jesper Bern’s novella film, Black Coffee & Vinyl (Sort Kaffe & Vinyl), which has been nominated for a Robert – the Danish Film Academy’s prize – which will be announced on Feb 28.
