Nordic major Nordisk Film has signed an output deal with the prolific Finnish production outfit MRP Matila Röhr Productions.
The three year deal will see the production company, which is Finland's largest, produce six new features. The deal is the first of its kind in the Finnish film industry, which has seen increased competition for local product between the distributors in recent years.
Nordisk Film and their partner Columbia TriStar will handle distribution of MRP's films across the region. The Egmont-owned media major will also be responsible for world sales of the films included.
MRP has become well known for its high-end product including box-office hits Ambush and Lovers & Leavers.
Owned and run by Marko Röhr and Ilkka Matila, the company consists of several production labels: Talent House, Juju Media, Arctica Underwater Lights and holds a major share in FantasiaFilmi as well as Finland's first digital postproduction facility Digital Film Finland. Among their upcoming films are Perttu Leppä's comedy Pigs And Pearls and Tapio Suominen's epic drama Mosku. They also recently co-produced the Estonian blockbuster Names In Marble by Elmo Nüganen.
"As the leading provider of electronic entertainment in the Nordic countries it's important for Nordisk Film to strengthen our position in Finland," says Kenneth D. Plummer, managing director and CEO of Nordisk Film.
