Result is still above average for last decade; local market share strong.

After a record Christmas, from 529,675 admissions – the best since 2005 - Norwegian cinemas registered a total attendance of 11,802,186 in 2013. Although 2.7% less than the previous year, the result was above the average of the last decade, according to statistics from Norwegian cinema association, Film & Kino.

With two titles on the charts - Rasmus A Sivertsen’s fully-animated Solan and Ludvig - Christmas in Pinchcliffe (Solan and Ludvig - Jul i Flåklypa) [pictured] and Mikkel Brænne Sandemose’s Ragnarok (Gåten Ragnarok) – Norwegian fare controlled 22.8% of the market, or 24% up on 2012. 2,685,295 admissions were the second best local outcome in the last 10 years.

Both November and December admissions were 10-year records for the months. “It was indeed a strong finish - the three best-grossing films of the year were all released during the last two months, confirming once again that audiences crowd the theaters when they show the right movies,” explained head of communications Birgitte Langballe, of Film & Kino.
