Sydney-based sales agent Odin’s Eye Entertainment (OEE) has secured exclusive rights to writer-director Rick Alverson’s The Comedy in all territories outside of North America.
Tribeca Enterprises acquired the film prior to the Cannes Film Festival.
Starring Tim Heidecker, The Comedy explores the dangers of late-stage capitalism when wealth and entitlement render the privileged incapable of feeling empathy.
Produced by independent record label Jagjaguwar, Brent Kunckle and Mike Ryan (Junebug), the film divided audiences at its premiere in Sundance, prompting heated discussion amongst critics and audiences.
Odin’s Eye CEO, Michael Favelle, said: “Provocative and subversive The Comedy is impossible to ignore and dismiss. It will have people arguing about it for decades to come.”
Heidecker stars in cult TV series Tim And Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! The cast also includes the show’s Eric Wareheim, James Murphy, frontman of US band LCD Soundsystem, and Gregg Turkinton.
