Michael Meredith’s The Open Road  and German Film Award-winner Andreas Dresen’s latest feature Whisky With Vodka are among over 30 world premieres at this year’s Munich Filmfest.

The festival, which runs 26 June - 4 July, has revealed a programme of more than 200 films, which also includes international and European premieres.

US director Meredith’s comedy The Open Road stars singer Justin Timberlake as a son trying to reconcile his dying mother (Mary Steenburgen) and estranged father (Jeff Bridges). It will premiere in the International Programme.

Dresen’s melancholic comedy with Henry Hübchen, Corinna Harfouch and Markus Hering, will screen in the sidebar dedicated to New German Feature Films. Whisky With Vodka is being handled internationally by The Match Factory.

All of the German feature films and TV movies selected will be shown for the first time. These include Susanne Schneider’s terrorist drama Es Kommt Der Tag, starring Iris Berben; Wolfgang Groos’ debut feature Hangtime, a coming-of-age tale of two brothers set against the world of professional basketball, and the Kinderfilmfest’s opening film animation feature Mullewapp - Das Grosse Abenteuer Der Freunde, by Tony Loeser and Jesper Moeller.

Meanwhile, there will be international premieres of Paul Cotter’s bittersweet comedy Bomber, Steve Jacobs’ adaptation of JM Coetze’s Disgrace, starring John Malkovich, which won the FIPRESCI Prize at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, and Deepa Mehta’s Canadian film Heaven On Earth.

The will also be a number of European premieres including Dana Perry’s Boy Interrupted, Philip Yung’s Glamorous Youth and Duncan Jones’ Moon.
