Danish-Swedish co-production Original won best feature in the Jin Jue Awards of the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF), which wrapped on Sunday night (June 21).
The film is the debut feature of co-directors Alexander Brondsted and Antonio Tublen. It also took the best actor award for Sverrir Gudnason’s performance.
Tibetan filmmaker Pema Tseden’s The Search was awarded the Jury Grand Prix, while Christina Yao’s Empire Of Silver took the Jury Award. Best actress went to Simone Tang for Denmark’s Aching Hearts.
Czech filmmaker Julius Sevcik took home best director forNormal, a dark drama about a lawyer trying to prove a serial killer’s insanity.
Best screenplay went to Fabio Bonifacci and Giulio Manfredonia for Italian tragi-comedy We Can Do That, while best cinematography went to Nicolas Gucheteau and Hans Meier for French social drama Nowhere Promised Land. Korean composer Roh Hyoung-woo picked up best music for Jang Hun’s action drama Rough Cut.
Stars including Ewan McGregor, Isabelle Huppert, Stephen Daldry, Michelle Yeoh and Karen Mok are among the guests attending the closing ceremony. Angels And Demons, which stars McGregor, was the closing film of the festival.
Meanwhile, Kang Hyung-chul’s Scandal Makers was awarded the best film at SIFF’s Asian New Talent Awards on Saturday night (June 20). China’s Zhao Ye won best director for Jalainur and Iran’s Ramtin Lavafipour won the jury prize for Be Calm And Count To Seven.
