The 82nd Annual Academy Awards will take place on Mar 7th 2010, a week later than usual to avoidthe closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver on February 28.
While the Oscars traditionally take place on the last Sunday inFebruary, the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences effected asimilar move three years ago so as not to clash with the 2006 Games in Turin.
The nominations will be announced on February 2 2010 and the ceremony will again take place at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood and will be televised live by the ABC Television Network.
In the wake of the date change, Film Independent was expected to
change the date of the Independent Spirit Awards, which traditionally
take place the day before the Oscars. However a spokesperson from Film Independent had not returned calls at time of writing.
In addition, the date change avoids any potential clash with the Berlinale’s 60th editionin 2010. The Berlinale had recently announced that it was moving back a week and will run from February 11 - 21 in 2010.
