The Belgian selection committee has submitted Our Children (A Perdre La Raison) by Joachim Lafosse as the country’s candidate for the Best Foreign Language Oscar.

The committee, presided over by Joelle Levie, included 9 other representatives of the Belgian film industry.

They said they were moved by the performance of leading actress Emilie Dequenne as well as “struck by the sustained quality of the production, the strenght of its issue force and by the aptness of the writing and acting.”

This Versus production, coproduced by Prime Time, was made with the support of the Centre du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel and the Flemish Audiovisual Fund.

It world premiered in Cannes Un Certain Regard. The film is a family drama about a young mother who becomes undone.

Les Films du Losange handles international sales and has sold to 12+ territories. O’Brother distributes in Belgium and Les Films du Losange in France,

The Oscar nominees will be announced on Jan 15.
