Although the Indian market has traditionally been dominated by local product, Indian buyers are becoming more active as local multiplexes and audiences open up to foreign films.
In addition, three Indian companies - Palador, UTV Software Communications and broadcaster NDTV - are launching world cinema labels, encompassing TV channels and theatrical and home video distribution.
UTV is launching a 24-hour channel dedicated to international films called World Movies. Meanwhile, Palador, which was initially partnered with UTV in its world cinema initiative but is now operating separately, is working with Tata Sky's pay-per-view Showcase channel to broadcast world cinema titles.
