Shooting has begun today on Elmar Fischer’s sensitive comedy Offroad, which marks the second local pickup by the German outpost of Paramount Pictures.

Fischer’s second feature stars Nora Tschirner as a young woman whose perfectly organized life is thrown topsy-turvy when she finds her husband-to-be inflagranti with another woman and then discovers 50 kilos of cocaine hidden in her newly acquired jeep.

Elyas M’Barek, Max von Pufendorf and Tonio Arango, Dominik Raacke and Axel Milberg also appear in this production by Munich-based Claussen+Wöbke+Putz Filmproduktion.

The co-production with private investor Dr. Wilfried Ackermann Filmproduktion and public broadcaster ZDF will be on location in Düsseldorf, Geilenkirchen and Berlin until late November.

Backing for the film has come from the German Federal Film Board (FFA), Filmstiftung NRW, FilmFernsehFonds Bayern, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and the German Federal Film Fund (DFFF).

Paramount Pictures Germany (PPG) had made its first local pickup this spring with feature debutant Tim Fehlmann’s post-apocalyptic thriller 2016 – Das Ende der Nacht.

Both films will be released theatrically by PPG in Germany in 2011.
