Peace Arch has swooped on North American rights to Who Killed Nancy?, the feature doc about the deaths of punk icons Nancy Spungen and Sid Vicious.
The film is handled here at the EFM by Moviehouse.
Directed by Alan G Parker, it explores the murky circumstances surrounding the death of 20-year-old Spungen, a former prostitute, sometime stripper and heroin addict. Vicious, her boyfriend and bassist with The Sex Pistols, was arrested after she was found dead in a New York hotel from a stab wound.
Vicious died from a heroin overdose a few months later, still under suspicion of her murder. Parker’s documentary asks whether he might have been innocent.
Peace Arch is planning a multi-platform release for the film in North America towards the end of June. It intends to release it simultaneously in theatres and through digital platforms.
Produced by Ben Timlett and Christine Alderson, Who Killed Nancy? was made through innovative genre label Moxie Makers.
