The proposed Project Pinewood will include a variety of locations for film and TV, including permanent working sets of streetscapes and location recreations such as an amphitheatre, castle, Ventitian canal, Italian lakeside, and street scenes from London, New York, Paris and Los Angeles.
Pinewood said the area would create a 'live-work' community, including up to 2250 homes integrated with the film locations, and spaces to build a sustainable community for creative industries.
The expansion would cover 105 acres, roughly doubling Pinewood's size.
Pinewood said that to date the costs of the project have been funded by the company itself, and that Project Pinewood's ultimate costs will be 'immaterial to its overall profitability.' financing the full project will be considered later, because the company expects planning permission for the 'greenbelt' land to take some time.
Ivan Dunleavy, Chief Executive of Pinewood Shepperton, said in a statement: 'This is an ambitious and exciting project that is of national importance Project Pinewood is consistent with the Company's strategy, and in particular the aim to grow its media park. The facilities we create will complement Pinewood Shepperton's existing unique infrastructure and we expect it to become an important additional incentive to bring global customers to the UK. Although still in its early stages and subject to planning approvals, the project has the potential to create significant value, while minimising risks to our shareholders.'
