Montreal-based EquinoxeProductions has signed Lea Pool to direct and co-adapt a film of GilCourtemanche's second novel Une Belle Mort, published this autumn in Quebec. Author Courtemanche will co-write thescreenplay.
Equinoxe recently completedpost-production on Un Dimanche A Kigali, the film based on Courtemanche's Rwandan genocide drama which shot inRwanda in earlier this year. Equinoxe's Lyse Lafontaine and Michael Mosca willrepeat as producers on the new project.
The story follows a Montrealfamily over a Christmas Eve as the eldest son watches the father he cannotabide slowly decline with Parkinson's Disease. The novel is described as"intensely sad, a little cynical and utterly jubilant". Swiss-Canadianfilmmaker Pool's last film was 2004's The Blue Butterfly.
Une Dimanche A Kigali, directed by Robert Favreau and starring Luc Picardand Fatou N'Diaye, is set for release next Spring.
