Hong Kong-based Celestial Pictures has appointed former Media Asia general manager Peter Poon as senior vice-president and producer Rosa Li is joining as creative executive.
Media industry veteran Poon will oversee international film distribution but will also be involved in the development of the new film projects and the company’s remakes of the Shaw Brother films.
Prior to joining Celestival, Poon was general manager of Fortune Star Entertainment, where he was responsible for licensing library feature titles and new media content development. He is also a former general manager at Media Asia Group, overseeing film distribution including Gen-X Cops, Purple Storm and Tempting Heart.
Li, whose credits include Rice Rhapsody and The Drummer, will work with Celestial on a consultancy basis and will lead the creative feature development team, which will oversee both the Shaw Brother remakes and original productions.
Ross Pollack (pictured), chief executive of Celestial, said the appointments provide “needed leadership” as the company expands into content production capabilities for its media channels and emerging digital businesses.
Established in 2001, Celestial Pictures is a subsidiary of Malaysian Astro All Asia Networks plc. It owns the 760-title Shaw Brothers library, which it has licensed in more than 100 territories, operates four TV channels as well as producing film and TV content.
