Peter Poon has quit as general manager of regional broadcaster Star TV's Hong Kong-based content arm, Fortune Star Entertainment, to pursue his own projects.

His first venture since quitting the company - a digital series made for wireless and broadband platforms and featuring pro-wrestler Paul Heyman as a motor-mouthed video-blogger - has already been announced. News Corp-owned UK newspaper The Sun will air the series on its web-site starting Feb 18.

The Heyman Hustle is produced by Heyman and Mitchell Stuart's New York-based HQ Productions and executive produced by Poon and Enid Nagler Stuart.

Fortune Star distribution chief May Yip also recently quit the company to join Emperor Motion Pictures (EMP) as general manager for distribution.

Neither Fortune Star or EMP are attending the European Film Market - most Hong Kong companies have decided not to make the trip as EFM coincides with Chinese New Year and Hong Kong Fimart takes place in a few weeks (March 17-20).

Star's Hong Kong-based spokesperson Jannie Poon said the company is currently under-going some restructuring of its distribution functions but will continue syndication of its programming and Chinese-language film library.
