Director Gini Reticker and producer Abigail Disney of documentary Pray The Devil Back To Hell are organising a Global Peace Tour of grassroots screenings across the world in September and October.

The documentary is about Liberian women who stand up to Charles Taylor and the country’s warlords.

The screenings will celebrate the United Nations’ International Day of Peace. The organisers have received more than 700 requests from community organisations wanting to screen the film, and so far 200 screenings are confirmed in the US alone. International screening locations will include Korea, Georgia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Jamaica, Canada, Australia, Germany, and The Netherlands.

The flagship event will be held September 21 at New York’s SVA Theatre, co-sponsored by the Eleanor Roosevelt Initiative on Women and Public Policy, the Global Fund for Women, the U.S. National Committee for UNIFEM, Social Work in Progress, CONNECT New York, and Women for Women. That day will include a panel with author Zainab Salbi.

Screenings will be organised with educational groups, non-profits, government agencies and religious groups.

The film already had a 40-city US theatrical run starting in 2008.

“People who see this film are alternately surprised, startled, amazed and inspired. They immediately want to tell a friend, talk about the ideas in the film, and do something to contribute to peace,” said producer Disney. “Pray is a case study on how people can band together to take charge of their destiny. What better way to celebrate the UN’s international Day of Peace?”
