Fortissimo Films has struck a French deal for Tran Anh Hung’s Venice and Toronto film Norwegian Wood.
James Velaise’s Pretty Pictures has acquired all French rights, in a deal negotiated with Fortissimo’s Nicole Mackey.
Fortissimo said it is also fielding multiple offers from the UK, Scandinavia, Switzerland, Balkans and China. Previous deals are Pandora Film for Germany, Vertigo Films for Spain, Lumiere Distribution for Benelux, Lusomundo Film for Portugal, CP Digital for CIS, Aero Films for Czech & Slovak, Vision for Poland, Edko for Hong Kong, Serenity for Taiwan, Cathay for Singapore, Mongkol for Thailand, Galaxy for Vietnam, United King for Israel and HBO Olé for Latin America.
The relationship drama is adapted from Haruki Murakami’s bestselling novel of the same name.
Mackey said: “James has been pursuing this film since it was announced more than a year ago. We are thrilled Norwegian Wood has been acquired by a distributor with such passion for the source material and the finished film. French audiences will no doubt love the film as much as the Fortissimo and Pretty Pictures teams do.”
