Prime already has six visual effects and post-production facilities in India and four in London (the latter are grouped as Prime Focus UK, formed after Prime's deal with post house VTR). The deal boosts Prime by 200 staffers.
Post Logic is known for its digital intermediate, color science and post-production services; the company has worked on recent projects including American Gangster and Sundance-bound Mysteries of Pittsburgh.
Frantic is a visual effects company which also includes the research & development division Frantic Films Software (which Prime also acquires). Frantic has worked on films including Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium and Fantastic Four: The Rise Of The Silver Surfer. Frantic's live-action production/post-production facilities and its television commercial division are not part of the acquisition.
Namit Mahlotra, managing director, Prime Focus, said in a statement: 'By virtue of their fantastic reputations and top quality services, Post Logic and Frantic Films will facilitate a gateway for Prime Focus Group into all of the major studios. Both companies also have strong R&D divisions that have developed proprietary technologies and processes for film color management, visual effects and pipeline collaboration which will benefit the organization as a whole.'
