Arclight Films has brought on Singapore’s IFS Capital to finance the comedy Mental, reuniting director PJ Hogan with Toni Collette 17 years after they collaborated on Muriel’s Wedding.

Shooting is set to commence this summer in Australia on the story based on Hogan’s script about a loopy woman who transforms a family when she goes to works as a nanny to five girls.

Jerry Zucker and Janet Zucker will produce Mental along with Todd Fellman and Jocelyn Moorhouse.

Arclight managing director Gary Hamilton will serve as executive producer and the company will handle international sales. CAA represents US rights.

IFS and Arclight recently teamed up on 33 Postcards, the China-Australia production that stars Guy Pearce, Zhu Lin and Lincoln Lewis.

“Pairing PJ Hogan, one of Australia’s most accomplished directors, with Toni Collette, an actress who is equally adept at drama and comedy and one who has achieved both commercial and critical success with equal facility, presents a rare and wonderful opportunity to make a picture that is destined to be both artistically important and a hit at the box office,” Hamilton said.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to be able to fund this film project with Arclight,” IFS said in a statement. “Teaming up with Arclight positions IFS to strategically explore the international co-production space. We see ourselves playing a pivotal role as a premiere financier for international co-productions such as 33 Postcards and Mental. In Arclight we have found a good partner to do so.”

Arclight is completing post-production on 3D shark action-thriller Bait, the first Singaporean-Australian co-production.
