Kate Beckinsale has signed on to reprise her role as the warrior vampire Selene in Screen Gems and Lakeshore Entertainment’s fourth Underworld instalment.

John Hlavin wrote the screenplay with revisions by J Michael Straczynski. Lakeshore’s Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi are producing alongside Len Wiseman, who directed the first two episodes of the franchise but will not do so here.

A director is being sought as well as an actress to take the role of Selene’s daughter. Production is set to start in Vancouver in March 2011.

Screen Gems’ senior vice-president of production Scott Strauss will oversee for the studio.
