Mia Wasikowska, Olivia Williams and newcomer Evan Bird have joined the upcoming thriller Maps To The Stars from eOne and Martin Katz’s Prospero Pictures.
eOne Films International holds worldwide rights and will launch sales on the Croisette next week. eOne will directly distribute the film in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
eOne and Prospero Pictures are co-financing and Katz produces with SBS Productions’ Saïd Ben Saïd. Sentient Entertainment’s Renee Tab, Cronenberg’s manager, will serve as executive producer with eOne’s Benedict Carver, who will oversee for the studio. Integral Films’ Alfred Hurmer is co-producing.
Production is scheduled to kick off in July in Toronto and Los Angeles on the ghost story that also doubles as a commentary on celebrity culture in Los Angeles. Bruce Wagner wrote the screenplay.
Following a long search Bird will play the drug-addicted child star Benjie alongside Williams as his manipulative mother Cristina and Wasikowska as Benjie’s disfigured, schizophrenic, fame-obsessed sister Agatha.
The trio joins previously announced Julianne Moore, John Cusack, Sarah Gadon and Robert Pattinson.
“The level of talent that we are attracting to this film speaks to the continuing allure of David Cronenberg,” said producer Katz. “We are thrilled to share these latest casting additions as we take this exciting new project to Cannes.”
