The studio announced on December 4 that the star of The Imitation Game will play the Sorcerer Supreme.

Doctor Strange is scheduled to open theatrically on November 4, 2016.

Scott Derrickson will direct from a screenplay by Jon Spaihts about neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who suffers a terrible accident and in the process discovers the world of magic and alternate dimensions.

“Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity,” said producer Kevin Feige. “In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.”
